Dear NC Association of Municipal Attorneys Members,

As President of the NC Association of Municipal Attorneys, and on behalf of the Board of Directors, I welcome you to our summer conference!

This year’s conference will be held August 3-5, 2023 at the Embassy Suites Hotel in scenic and historic downtown Wilmington. Our conference will include an educational component of six hours of CLEs and plenty of opportunities to network. We will elect three (3) officers (the President, First Vice President, and Second Vice President), and we will also elect four (4) new members to our Board of Directors

Our Nominating Committee will confer prior to the conference to prepare its recommendation of candidates for the new slate of officers. The membership will vote on this slate during our business meeting following Friday’s CLEs. If you would like to be considered for a board or officer position, please forward your name to the Committee Chair, Ash Smith at ashs@cityofgastonia.com or contact me at John.Joye@cltairport.com. The Association welcomes all those who are interested in serving.

As a reminder, this year, we will have a special “Saturday Soiree” where we will honor Anthony Fox and Chris Simpson as the latest recipients of the Ernest H. Ball – Frayda S. Bluestein Award for Excellence in Municipal Law. The Saturday Soiree will feature heavy hors d’oeuvres and an open bar, along with recognition of our board members and officers. There will be brief remarks from me and your incoming President.

Like many of you, I look forward to this conference. It provides a time to meet new colleagues and strengthen old friendships. To our newer members or first-time attendees, welcome! Please don’t hesitate to say hello and get to know your colleagues. These are the folks who can understand just how unpredictable municipal law can be, and also how rewarding it truly is. I encourage everyone to join your friends (including future friends), mentors, colleagues, and fellow servants and get involved with our Association.

Registrants can reserve a hotel room after they have completed the conference registration process. Once registration has been completed, the registrant will receive a confirmation e-mail that will include information on how to reserve a hotel room. Room Block Deadline is Monday, July 10th, 2023.

To obtain the negotiated group rates with the Embassy Suites by Hilton Wilmington Riverfront, please register and reserve your room by Monday, July 10, 2023. The group block dates are as follows: check-in on Thursday, August 3 and check-out Sunday, August 6. The room block does not include a Wednesday check-in.

Standard View Suites $249 per night + tax
Riverview Suites $269 per night + tax

The above rates are for single occupancy. Each additional adult is $20 more per night. Check-in time is 4:00 PM. Check out time is 11:00 AM.

Registration Fees:
NCAMA Member Registration Fee: $395.00
Non-Member Registration Fee: $495.00
**Registration Fee Includes: Thursday and Friday evening receptions (hors d’oeuvres and open bar); Friday morning breakfast; Saturday morning breakfast; Saturday Evening Soiree heavy (hors d’oeuvres and open bar); snack breaks

Additional Fees:
CLE Fee - $30 per person, plus tax
Friday Municipal Dinner - $50 per attorney - $35 per Spouse/Guest/Child
** $35 Guest payments can be made using a second credit card during the checkout process. Please print your order summary for accurate credit card distribution amounts on the final checkout screen. Your confirmation e-mail will also show an itemized breakdown of charges.

Refund Policy:
To cancel your registration, contact events@nclm.org, no later than Friday, July 21st to qualify for a refund. We must give guarantees to the conference facility, and they will charge us even if you cancel; therefore, no refunds for meals and events can be made after July 21st. Please review the hotel's cancellation policy in regard to your room reservation.
