Municipal Advisory Boards, Commissions, and Committees Orientation

Cities and towns continuously appoint citizens to various advisory boards, commissions, task forces, and committees to advise municipal elected officials and governing bodies on a wide range of policy issues and concerns.

The formation and use of these boards and commissions provide many advantages, such as an in-depth examination of municipal issues or serving as a communication channel between elected officials and the community. These advisory boards bring a broad range of ideas and expertise to public decision-making, by not only assisting in the resolution of conflicts, but also providing training for new leaders.

Please join the North Carolina League of Municipalities and N.C. State University expert, Dr. Bruce McDonald for a training that will provide attendees with  an overview of the roles and responsibilities, basic operating procedures, and best practices.

We encourage all elected officials and managers to join. Please invite members of your local boards and commissions to attend as well.

This web-based course is $50 to NCLM members. For non-NCLM members, this course is available for $60, plus applicable tax. This course is designated for 1 credit hour toward the Advancing Municipal Leadership certification program.
